March 1 - 1776 Treaty of Purandhar

Treaty of Purander is One of the Unknown history of  india.The pact is sign between British East India Company and Peshwa (chief minister) of the Maratha people. This pact is illustrate about intricate relation between British and Marathas.

Narayanrao Bhat was the 10th Peshwa of the Maratha Confederacy from November 1772 ,The Narayan Peth area in Pune is named after Peshwa Narayanrao.There is a belief in Pune that Narayanrao's ghost roams the ruins of Shaniwar Wada at every full moon night and calls out for help just like the way he did on the fateful day of his assassination in August 1773.

After death of the peshwa Nayan Rao in 1773,his uncle Raghunath Rao attempt to secure the Succession, With the help of Colonel Upton, the Governor General Warren Hastings and Nana Phadnavis of the Peshwa signed a treaty in which the British recognised Sawai Madhav Rao as the new Peshwa and the Marathas agreed not to recognise the presence of the French in India. The British people were successful in acquiring Salsette based on the conditions of the agreement.


Salsette is Non other than todays mumbai region of india
