On March 7, 2005, a series of coordinated bombings took place in Varanasi, a holy city located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The bombings were carried out by a group of terrorists who targeted crowded areas in the city, including the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple and the Varanasi Cantonment Railway Station.
The first explosion occurred at around 6:20 pm at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, a Hindu shrine frequented by devotees and tourists. The bomb was planted in a crowded area near the temple's entrance, and it caused a powerful blast that killed more than 20 people and injured dozens of others.
Within minutes of the first explosion, two more bombs went off at the Varanasi Cantonment Railway Station, which is one of the busiest train stations in the city. The bombs were placed in the waiting areas of the station and caused significant damage to the infrastructure. At least 15 people were killed and dozens more were injured in the two explosions.
The Indian authorities were quick to respond to the attacks, and they launched a massive investigation to track down the perpetrators. It was soon discovered that the bombings were carried out by a group of terrorists who were associated with the Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based militant organization that has been involved in a number of attacks in India.
The investigation led to the arrest of several suspects, including a man named Tariq Ahmed Dar, who was believed to be the mastermind behind the bombings. Dar was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison for his role in the attacks.
The bombings on Varanasi were widely condemned by both the Indian government and the international community. The attacks were seen as an attempt by the terrorists to sow fear and discord in one of India's holiest cities. However, the people of Varanasi refused to be cowed by the bombings, and they came together to rebuild their city and stand up against terrorism
